With options suitable for cruise lines or aircraft, all collapse down to a compact size for easier storage and handling when not in use, or while in travel.
What is the Difference Between a Power Chair & a Mobility Scooter?
A power chair offers greater seated comfort for the user and does not require the use of handlebars to operate. Generally, power chairs are operated either using joystick controls on the armrest, breathe-operated in instances where the user is very limited in mobility, or with a remote operated by a caregiver.
A mobility scooter is an adaptive device for individuals with a greater degree of mobility and core strength, and it requires handlebar operation for steering, braking and accelerating. Mobility scooters are generally three- or four-wheeled, and thus have a larger footprint than most powerchairs.
Will MediCare Pay for My Scooter or Power Chair?
In certain cases, MediCare will cover the cost of a mobility scooter or power chair. An exam with your doctor is required, and it will depend on your unique situation and circumstances. The first step is making an appointment with your doctor; please read MediCare's Powerchair & Scooter Coverage details for more information.
