FAQs

How long should my wheelchair ramp be?

That depends on how high your step, or steps are. For ADA compliance, there should be one foot of ramp for every inch of height (also called rise). For more information, read How to Determine Wheelchair Ramp Length.

Are modular ramps permanent?

Modular ramps are considered to be semi-permanent. They provide all the benefits of a permanent structure, such as a concrete ramp, however they do not alter your property and can be removed if needed due to how they’re constructed.

Can I move a modular ramp later?

Yes, modular ramps are designed to be easy to move and reconfigure because they are usually bolted together rather than permanently installed with concrete. The term “modular” is used to illustrate that the pieces can be used in multiple layouts.

Do modular ramps require concrete?

Unlike a deck, modular ramps do not require concrete footings. They are engineered to be surface mounted, which also means they don’t typically require permits for installation.

How much weight can a modular ramp hold?

Due to their longer length, modular ramps are usually rated for up to 1,000 lbs. with the understanding that multiple people may be using the ramp at one time with their mobility device(s). Confirm with us if the weight capacity is unclear or you have questions.

Can I install it myself?

Modular ramps are designed to be installable by the purchaser (or their friends/family), however some customers prefer to pay to have a professional install the ramp for them.

How long does installation take?

Installation times vary; it depends on what ramp length and model you purchased, and how easy the assembly is on that model. Some ramp section might require bolting together, some might slip into brackets. It really depends on the ramp.

Are handrails included?

Typically, the longer length of modular ramps necessities that handrails be included for safety. If you have any questions about whether or not a ramp comes with handrails, please call us and we would be happy to find that answer for you.

This 10' L ramp section is manufactured from high-strength, lightweight aluminum with a clean, uncluttered appearance that fits in with most surroundings. This system is designed to be freestanding, so it may be used as a permanent fixture, moved, or reconfigured if necessary.

These modular wheelchair ramp systems are strong, durable, portable, and flexible, yet are affordable enough to make it the best alternative to provide quality functional access to many areas. This 36" wide ramp has a weight capacity of 100 lbs. per square foot and works in conjunction with other ramps, stairs, and platforms to attain maximum rises of 60" high.

Built-in 1.5" thick handrails are entirely ADA compliant and optional ADA extensions and guard rails with vertical slats are available on request.

Usage Guidelines
Assembly time is approx. one hr per 16' of ramp and approx. 30 mins for landings; site prep, transport, and anchoring not included. These ramps don't have to be permanently attached to a building. Each leg is independently adjustable to compensate for settling of the supporting surface using a half-inch wrench. Ramps can be disassembled, moved, and reassembled at a new site in a new configuration and length. Platforms must have a minimum of one leg anchored on each of the two opposite sides. Each freestanding ramp must be anchored at the upper and lower end. Secure anchoring for the first pair of posts at the bottom is especially important because this adds necessary strength to the lower end of the handrails. Anchoring may consist of lag screws or bolts into wooden surfaces, or anchor bolts drilled into existing concrete, and/or pre-cast pads or poured in place. Using the ADA-recommended slope of 1:12 is preferred; however, when space is limited these system will accommodate slopes up to 2:12. ADA requires handrails on any ramp with a rise of 6 or more, and PVI recommends handrails on all but the shortest ramps unless other provisions are made for the safety and assistance of the user. Please note that some codes mandate handrail spacing, and or vertical slats.
